Unlike Australia or more exotic parts of the world, we don't have to worry about checking our shoes for killer spiders before putting them on. And that's a good thing. One spider, the False Widow, has certainly gotten arachnophobia sufferers sweating over the past year, but this species is rare, and reported cases of attacks on humans are rarer still.
But poisonous or not, some people just hate spiders. And we get that.
We understand if you do not like the thought of a spider living in your home. We know after speaking to many people, that a dislike or fear of spiders is down to the fact that they invade one's personal space and can get practically anywhere.
The good news is that there are things you can do to drastically reduce the number of spiders in your home. Here's our professional recommendations:
- Put sticky traps in the corners of every room
Spiders are predatory creatures, and they aren't stupid. They prefer to run along the edges of a room rather than straight across it to avoid danger. You can beat spiders at their own game with sticky traps. Putting sticky traps in the corners of your rooms will trap those that dare scurry along the edges. Once trapped, simply squash the spider. It won't escape.
- Use off-the-shelf insecticidal powder or dust to kill spiders
Insecticide powder or dust is the best product for killing spiders. Dust is great, because it collects on spider webs and the spider will pick it up as it navigates the web. Dust will also fit into all the cracks and crevices of your property. We recommend it is applied under the eaves of your home and around doorways and windows for maximum effect.
- Fill in any holes and block any entry points
Even the largest spiders can fit through the tiniest holes. Floor boards will let spiders into a home if they are not covered sufficiently and any holes or gaps in your walls will home a spider eventually. You should fill holes with expanding foam (can be sanded and painted) and fill in any gaps in your floor boards to stop spiders from coming into your living space.
